Bulletin Announcements

April 20, 2008

Fifth Sunday of Easter

The next Lutheran Holy Communion will be celebrated on May 18, 2008, at our 8:30 a.m. worship service.

Bruce and Diana Hill have consented to be Heidelberg's delegates for the 2008 synodical assembly, May 29–31, at Split Rock Lodge. This is an important assembly because we will be electing a new bishop.

If you have been a volunteer at Heidelberg this past year, come to the annual volunteer appreciation banquet at the New Tripoli Fire Company on April 26, 2008. Social time is at 6:00 p.m. and dinner is at 6:45 p.m.

The Rite of Confirmation will be held at our 8:30 a.m. service on May 11, 2008. As of the Church Council meeting of April 8, the following confirmands will become adult members of Heidelberg Lutheran Church: Andrew Afflerbach, Mackenzie Fegely, Kyle Greenawald, Meredith Handwerk, Felisha Loveless, and Douglas Saks. The new confirmands will celebrate their first Holy Communion on May 18, 2008.

If you know of a member who is graduating from high school, college, or graduate school, please notify the parish secretary at 610-767-1526.

The Concert Handbell Choir will be presenting their annual spring bell program on May 4 at 11:00. Please come and enjoy the beautiful and inspirational music at this very special service of worship. Since this is a union service, there will be only one worship service on that day.

At the special congregational meeting on April 6, the congregation voted to sell the pewter flagon. The proceeds will be used for the financing of the fellowship hall project. The final vote was 36–4. Both congregations have voted to sell their respective flagons. As per the action of the Lutheran congregation, any money received from the Lutheran sale over and above the UCC sale will be deposited into the general Lutheran accounts.

Volunteers are needed to distribute food at the Northern Lehigh Food Bank this month. A detailed sign-up sheet is located in the narthex.

Interested in a spring/summer Bible study? Speak to Pastor Hess with your ideas.

The C.I.C. met on March 24 with Boyle Construction. Boyle presented the committee with bids from several contractors to perform specific jobs on fellowship hall. The committee reviewed the bids and selected contractors for the following: site work, concrete, plumbing, HVAC and electrical. The treasurer reported the current operating funds are $22, 332.66 in the General fund and $30,000 in the Kitchen fund as of that meeting. The next meeting is April 28 at 7:00 p.m., and the meeting is open to all members.

Want to contribute to our Fellowship Hall Building Fund? Contributions can be made anytime. Just place your contribution in a sealed envelope marked "Building Fund," with your name and address included in order to receive a receipt for tax purposes. Make your check payable to "Heidelberg Union CIC," and place it in the offering plate or mail it to:

A Note from the Endowment Committee: “The family of Florence Harter has chosen to buy a new television set to enhance Christian Education here at Heidelberg with the memorial funds that were set aside in her name. Thank you to the Harter family for this improvement. We are sure that it will be widely used during Sunday School and Fellowship Hall Events."

Volunteers are needed to distribute food at Northern Lehigh Food Bank the first three Thursday evenings and last Saturday morning of April. A detailed sign-up sheet is located in the narthex.

In the coming months, Heidelberg Sunday School will be in need of several teachers and helpers. Since the Sunday School is important to the strength of Heidelberg, please give this prayerful consideration and contact either the pastors or superintendent Bob Gutekunst.

VBS is in need of a director (also teachers, helpers, crafts, etc.) for 2008. VBS is tentatively scheduled for July 21–25. If interested in volunteering, please contact Cheryl Gough of Kelly Frisch.
